Today, I fixed a hose.
Now, this doesn’t sound anything beyond ordinary, but for me, it’s extraordinary. I feel I was resourceful and original. Granted, the hose still leaks, a little, but it’s overall state has improved. Let’s get some background. This hose is brand newand is in our kennel mop closet. I wanted to wash some cages, and went to get the hose. Upon turning the water on, numerous leaks sprung from the hose/faucet connection. While further inspecting the culprit-leak, I found someone had used masking tape to try and fix the leak. Now consider what masking tape is—does it seem at all waterproof? NO. A very disappointing job had been used to fix the leak, so small spouts of water shot out of the hose. Since having appropriate tools is not something we can claim at my work, I had to turn to my genius brain and limited resources. I scoured the clinic looking for anything adhesive and waterproof. Vet wrap? No. Not waterproof. Also expensive. Bandage tape? Hmm…probably not, although a possible option. We had no duct tape, but I was finally able to find some clear, box closing tape…who’s name I cannot recall….That was a start. But the strips are too small, and water would probably leak as it did with the masking tape. Finally, my genius mind thought of something that came in large strips and also was waterproof!
Saran Wrap! Yes, we had some! Perfect. With saran wrap in hand, I headed back to the hose. I wrapped that hose like there was no tomorrow. After successfully securing about three feet around the leak, I tested the water….now all the water bubbled up under the saran wrap and leaked out both ends. I was forced to find a complimenting adhesive. Enter that box tape I mentioned earlier. After drying off the leak and re-securing my saran wrap, I completely adhered it to the hose. Mission accomplished.
Now the hose leaks from one hole. There’s steady stream that, helpfully, aims toward the mop and kind of washes that at the same time. I’m so overqualified for my job. Ha.
Should you need any household repairs done on a limited budget, please let me know. I’m for hire.
This one goes out to my man Bucket!
